IA

Matching classic styling with a modern twist. The lightweight, acoustic-style construction coupled with low output pickups equates to an extremely resonant and responsive electric guitar. The IA covers a huge dynamic tonal range from crystal clean to deep down and dirty.

The ribs or sides of the guitar are hand bent from a single piece of either Cherry or Walnut to match the back.

Light as a feather, the completed guitars typically weigh only 2kgs/4.4lbs depending on hardware choices. A perfect fit for the gigging musician fed up of lugging heavy gear and also for players with back issues.

The IA takes its name from St Ia, who floated across the Irish Sea on a leaf. She landed in Cornwall and gave her name to St Ives, the town I grew up in.

A lovely demo of the latest IA guitar by local guitarist Ted Morcaldi. Hailing from New York, Ted's settled now in Cambridgeshire and is quickly making a name for himself. I love his touch, dynamic and musicality of expression.

It was a treat to be present during these recordings and to hear the guitar in the context of Ted's own setup, showing off the versatility of the instrument. Ted's rig is relatively simple: a volume pedal, Boss DD-2 Digital Delay, Eventide Timefactor for loops and a Lexicon LXP-1 Reverb through a 1980s Musicman 112 RD50 amp.

We recorded the session with a Rode NT1-A close mic'd and a Shure SM57 to capture a little of the room ambience.
